Ethos
Have you ever watched the Sara McLachlan commercial that displays heart-wrenching picture and video of sheltered dogs that were abused and are now in a fatal condition? Think of how that video made you feel. The song "In the Arms of an Angel" playing in the background, dogs and cats crying. Anyone with a heart is going to do one of three things, switch the channel because they are on the verge of tears, donate money, or find the nearest animal shelter and adopt a dog. This is exactly the reasoning behind the commercials. These are not entertaining or informational, these commercials are meant to guilt and persuade. This is a form of ethos.

There is a wide range of ethos and how it effects our society. It is used to sell, persuade, inform, criticise, etc. The most common form of ethos besides commercials and ads is the ethos of celebrities and how society interprets them and how social media and cirulation effects them. Ethos coincides with many of the key concepts in our daily lives and creates a large impact on our world today in the 21st century.
